Tucked into a traditional stone house of Berat, with views of the city and mountains, each of the 7 rooms -three of which are heritage rooms that looks like small museums with original details- offers its own quiet charm. Mornings at Hotel Ansel begin with birdsongs and the sound of wind that whispers through the silent alleyways of the Unesco city. The design respects the history of the property maintaining traditional wooden shutters, beamed ceilings, stone elements and earthy, natural hues with some hints of colors.

FOOD & DRINKS

The in-house restaurant provides a farm-to-table dining experience. Hotel Ansel’s owners have a small farm in Berat’s countryside and most of the ingredients used in the menu comes from there. The menu offers a range of Albania’s best dishes -read: byrek, stuffed aubergines and peppers, grilled meat, shepherd cheeses, aromatic herbs and pispili. The Albanian breakfast is excellent too. Expect fresh fruit juices, petulla, shepherd cheese, compotes, local honey, homemade yoghurt, bread and the freshest seasonal fruit.

Hotel Ansel is superbly located in Mangalem neighborhood and close to all the city landmarks. The old churches and mosques of Berat are practically on your doorstep but make time to discover all of the town’s treasures. Within a short walk you can find hidden gems, secret gardens, artisan boutiques and small cafes at every turn. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit Kala, the inhabited castle with ancient buildings, Onufri Museum and the church of St. Mary, among the most beautiful churches in the country.
